Add a Touch of French Charm with These Front Door Colors

Our family trip to France last year was unforgettable, with its old-world architecture and charming cobblestone streets. Among my favorite features were the colorful front doors found on French apartment buildings!

With summer well on it's way, it's the perfect time to update your front door with a fresh and welcoming hue, but with so many color options available, it can be overwhelming to choose the perfect one. Take inspiration from vibrant French doors and follow these tips to select the perfect color for your front door!

  • Consider your home's style — Your front door color should complement the style of your home. If your home is traditional, consider a classic color such as black or navy. If your home is modern, you may want to opt for a bright pop of color like red or teal.

  • Look at your home's color palette — Consider the existing colors on your home's exterior. You want to choose a front door color that complements those colors rather than clashes with them. If your home is neutral, a bold front door color can add interest and personality. If your home exterior has lots of color, choose a front door color that coordinates with those colors.

  • Think about your landscaping — Take a look at the colors in your garden and surroundings! If you have a lot of greenery, a bold and bright front door can really stand out, while a more subdued color like a soft gray or blue can provide a nice contrast.

  • Consider your personal style — Your front door color is an opportunity to showcase your personal style. Whether you prefer a bold and dramatic statement or a more subdued and subtle look, there’s a lot of colors that can complement your style. For a more playful look, consider a bright pink or turquoise. For a more classic and elegant look, consider a deep burgundy or dark navy.

  • Test it out —I always recommend testing out a color before committing to it! Paint a swatch on your front door or order a peel-and-stick sample (this is an affiliate link) and observe how it looks at different times of the day in different lighting. Make sure you're happy with the color before committing to the full paint job.
