How Studio Hinman Started

Today is our one year anniversary!

You may not know this, but I actually got started in the interior design industry because a good friend lit a fire inside me, inspiring me to pursue my passion for interiors. Our conversations usually drifted to how amazing it would be to run a business doing something we loved. After a decade of graphic and web design, I’ve always been in love with design because it allows me to express creativity while problem solving, but it was time for a change.

At the time, I was reevaluating my life and my home. I quickly began dreaming of my own studio because I realized what brings me joy could also bring joy to others. I knew right away it was what I wanted to do professionally.

I started experimenting with my own home and honing my aesthetics. Learning about interior design through a class at the New York Institute of Art and Design, I began investigating what was involved in starting a business. Gaining knowledge of furniture construction, fabrics, lighting planning and more has been fascinating. It’s so satisfying to figure out the perfect solution, to see a client’s face light up when I show them just the right piece for their space.

It has taken a year of determination and dedication to grow my business. Working with clients who value my hard work and guidance has been incredibly rewarding. I truly love my job and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Delilah Hinman

After a decade as a web and graphic designer, I shifted into an interior design career to connect with my passion and have a tangible relationship with my work and with my clients. I realized what brings me the most joy could also bring joy to others. I believe in cozy blankets, vintage shopping, and birthday cakes.
